Nichols Residence

This is a proposal for the redesign of a three story townhouse in Tribeca, NYC recently purchased by film historians and entrepreneurs Max and Rachel Nichols.  Tribeca is a popular filming location for television and movies, and the home of the Tribeca Film Festival.  The ground floor of the space will be renovated to house CINEPHILIA, the Nichols’ movie memorabilia business.

The second and third floors will be renovated to create a private residence for the Nichols.  The clients would like their private space to reflect their style and personality, as well as their love of film.  The designed space will reflect a quasi-Hollywood Regency style.  There are a wide variety of looks to this decor, but the main elements of the decor will include lacquered finishes, vintage or Asian inspired decor, animal prints, faux fur, luxurious velvets, deep, sumptuous area rugs, black, white and bold colors, and touches of glitz and glamour.

Each space is inspired by a vintage movie poster that is part of its decor and the color schemes are pulled directly from the posters.  The furnishings will be a combination of items from the Nichols’ personal collections, newly purchased antiques, and new pieces which reflect the style and feel of each space.  The design will incorporate the glamour of old Hollywood in a modern way, with a balance of form and function that creates not only a showpiece residence for entertaining, but also a comfortable home.
